# Preferences > The preferences that DooFiles saves in your browser, in the file manager: the preview, the width of the panels, the sounds, the order of the list, thumbnails, uploads and the open folders, and how to clear them all. Source: https://doothemes.com/docs/doofiles/files/preferences --- ## Overview Some preferences of DooFiles only change how you see it, so they are saved in your browser instead of on your server. They do not affect other administrators, and they do not follow you to another browser or device. To open them, click the preferences icon next to **File manager**, at the top of the folder panel. The preferences open where the file list is. To go back to the folder you were in, click its name at the top, before **Preferences**, or click the preferences icon again. Each preference is saved as soon as you change it, and DooFiles shows *Saved in this browser.* Changes apply right away: for example, resetting the width of the folder panel resizes it on the spot. The settings of your site, which apply to every administrator, are in **DooFiles › Settings**. See [Settings](https://doothemes.com/docs/doofiles/settings). ## Appearance | Preference | What it does | Default | |---|---|---| | **Theme** | **Light**, **Dark** or **System**. Dark is a black, monochrome look that is easier on the eyes in low light, with soft colors for warnings. System follows the light or dark setting of your device and changes with it. The theme applies right away to the whole of DooFiles: the file manager, its dialogs and menus, the code editor and the Markdown preview, Preferences and Settings. The menu and the toolbar of WordPress keep their own colors. Needs DooFiles 1.0.11 or newer | Light | | **Code editor theme** | The colors of the code in the editor with the dark theme: **Santiago**, soft and monochrome; **Dracula Soft**, the soft version of the Dracula palette; or **Aura Soft**, the soft version of the Aura palette. A short sample of code below shows each one before you open a file. With the light theme, the editor keeps the colors of WordPress and this row is turned off. Needs DooFiles 1.0.11 or newer | Santiago | ## Panels and preview | Preference | What it does | Default | |---|---|---| | **Open the preview when editing** | Markdown, HTML and JSON files open with the preview next to the code | Off | | **Folders panel width** | The width of the folder panel. Drag its edge to change it, and click **Reset** here to go back to the default | Default | | **Folder tree spacing** | How tall each folder is in the tree: **Compact** fits more folders, **Spacious** makes them easier to read and click. It changes right away. Needs DooFiles 1.0.11 or newer | Normal | | **Folder tree indent** | The space for each level of folders in the tree, in pixels, from 8 to 40. Type a number; the tree changes right away. Needs DooFiles 1.0.11 or newer | 21 | | **Preview width** | How the editor splits the code and the preview. Drag the divider in the editor to change it, and click **Reset** here to go back to half and half | Half and half | See [Editor](https://doothemes.com/docs/doofiles/files/editor#preview). ## Sounds Your browser makes these sounds: DooFiles has no audio files. Click **Play** next to each one to hear it. | Preference | What it does | Default | |---|---|---| | **Sound for warnings** | Plays a short tone when DooFiles asks before you change something WordPress needs, such as `wp-config.php` or an active plugin. See [Files WordPress needs](https://doothemes.com/docs/doofiles/files/manage-files#files-wordpress-needs) | On | | **Sound when uploads finish** | Plays a short chime when nothing is left in the In progress tab | On | ## List and folders | Preference | What it does | Default | |---|---|---| | **List order** | The column and direction the file list is sorted by. Click a column title in the list to change it, and **Reset** here to go back | Name, ascending | | **Thumbnails** | Shows the previews of images and videos in the file list in this browser. Whether DooFiles makes them at all is a site setting: see [Thumbnails](https://doothemes.com/docs/doofiles/settings/thumbnails). When they are off for the whole site, this row shows *Turned off for the whole site.* See [Browse and search](https://doothemes.com/docs/doofiles/files/browse-and-search#thumbnails) | On | | **Keep finished uploads for** | How many minutes finished uploads stay in the Completed tab of the uploads panel, even after a reload. From 1 to 1,440 minutes | 10 minutes | | **Uploads at the same time** | How many files go up at once, from 1 to 6. More is faster on a good connection; fewer is gentler on a slow connection or a small server. A change applies right away, even to uploads in progress in another tab | 3 | | **Open folders in the tree** | How many folders the tree keeps open between visits. **Close all** closes them | — | See [Browse and search](https://doothemes.com/docs/doofiles/files/browse-and-search) and [Uploads](https://doothemes.com/docs/doofiles/files/uploads). ## What else DooFiles remembers in this browser Without a row of their own, DooFiles also remembers: - where you left the uploads panel, and whether it was normal, minimized or expanded; - the list of finished uploads, for the minutes you set; - which cards of **DooFiles › Settings** you left open; - in the [media viewer](https://doothemes.com/docs/doofiles/files/media-viewer#videos): the volume, whether the sound is off, the speed, **AUTO** and **LOOP** of the video player, the cinematic lighting and the width of the **Details** panel. ## Clear everything To put every preference of this browser back as it comes, click **Clear everything DooFiles saved in this browser**, at the bottom of the **List and folders** card, and confirm. This also empties the list of finished uploads, and the page reloads to apply it. Nothing changes on your server, and other administrators are not affected. These preferences are also cleared when you clear the data of your site in your browser, and are not kept in a private window. ## Feedback Below the preferences, the **Feedback** card lets you tell Doothemes about a problem or an idea without leaving the file manager. It opens a ticket in your account, and the answer reaches you by email. It is the same card as in **DooFiles › Settings**: see [Getting help](https://doothemes.com/docs/doofiles#getting-help). Needs DooFiles 1.0.10 or newer. At the bottom, **Open settings** takes you to the settings of the whole site, like the license, security and private folders. ## Troubleshooting | Problem | What to do | |---|---| | I want to go back to my files | Click the name of your folder at the top, before **Preferences**, or the preferences icon again | | I cannot find the preferences | Click the preferences icon next to **File manager**, at the top of the folder panel | | My preferences are not there on another computer | They are saved in each browser. Set them again there | | My preferences were reset | The data of the site was cleared in your browser, or you used a private window | | The list keeps an order I do not want | Click a column title in the list, or **Reset** in **List order** | | I do not hear the sounds | Check that **Sound for warnings** or **Sound when uploads finish** is on, click **Play**, and check the volume of your device and that the browser tab is not muted | | The uploads panel is in an odd place | Drag it by its top bar, or click **Clear everything DooFiles saved in this browser** | Need more help?
