# Settings > A map of DooFiles › Settings: the settings of your site and the preferences of your browser, every card and what it changes, how saving works, and why a setting can show as locked. Source: https://doothemes.com/docs/doofiles/settings --- ## Overview **DooFiles › Settings** has two groups of settings: - **Site.** They apply to the whole site and to every administrator, and they are saved on your server. Saving them always asks for your password, and for your second factor if you use one, even when code changes do not. - **This browser.** They only change how you see DooFiles in this browser. They do not affect other administrators or your other devices. The version of DooFiles appears at the bottom of the page. Change the settings of a card. The card shows *You have unsaved changes.* 2. Click **Save changes**, and confirm your password. 3. DooFiles shows *Settings saved.* **Discard changes** puts the card back as it was. If you try to leave the page with unsaved changes, your browser asks you to confirm. Numbers must be whole numbers within their range. If one is not, the card tells you which range to use, for example: *Days in the trash: use a whole number from 1 to 365.* The settings of the **This browser** group are saved as soon as you change them, and DooFiles shows *Saved in this browser.* ## Open and close the cards Click the top of a card, or **Show details**, to open it, and again to close it. DooFiles remembers which cards you left open, in this browser. A card opens on its own when it needs your attention, for example when your license is about to expire, when a private folder can be opened from the web, or when it has unsaved changes. ## Settings that show as locked A setting shows as locked, with a note that explains why, when something other than this page decides its value: | Note | What it means | |---|---| | *Set by the … filter in the site's code.* | A developer fixed that value in the code of your site. See [Filters and constants](https://doothemes.com/docs/doofiles/developers/filters-and-constants) | | *Turned on by … in wp-config.php.* | A line in `wp-config.php`, such as `DISALLOW_FILE_EDIT`, turns it on. See [Read-only mode](https://doothemes.com/docs/doofiles/security/read-only-mode) | | *Turn on your own second factor above to change these settings.* | The options of the second factor need your own second factor turned on | ## Without an active license Without an active license, only the **License** card can be used. The other cards show *Needs a license*, and DooFiles only lets you browse the folders until you activate one. See [License activation](https://doothemes.com/docs/doofiles/license-activation). ## Troubleshooting | Problem | What to do | |---|---| | **Save changes** does not respond | Check the message at the bottom of the card. A number may be out of its range | | A setting is locked | Read the note under it. It says which filter or line of `wp-config.php` decides it | | My browser preferences are not there on another computer | They are saved in each browser. Set them again there | | Every card except License shows *Needs a license* | Activate your license in the **License** card | Need more help?
