# Translations > How Wovie shows your site in your language: the languages it includes, how to use it with other variants of Spanish, and how to translate it or change its texts without losing them in the next update. Source: https://doothemes.com/docs/wovie/customization/translations --- ## Overview Wovie is written in English and includes a Spanish translation. WordPress shows it in the language of your site, set in **Settings › General › Site Language**. Your site combines texts from three sources: | Texts | Where they come from | |---|---| | Buttons, menus of the account, forms and messages of the theme | The translation of Wovie | | Messages of sign in, sign up, comments and other features of Dbmovies | The translation of Dbmovies | | Titles, synopses and genres of your catalog | The import language of Dbmovies. See [Initial settings](https://doothemes.com/docs/dbmovies/initial-settings) | The texts you write yourself, such as your menus, the footer subtitle or the copyright, are shown as you write them. ## Languages included - **English**, the language of the theme. - **Spanish** (`es_ES`), in neutral Spanish. Wovie uses the Spanish translation when the language of your site is **Español** (`es_ES`). Other variants of Spanish, such as **Español de México** (`es_MX`) or **Español de Argentina** (`es_AR`), do not use it on their own, and Wovie shows in English. To use the Spanish translation with your variant: 1. Copy `wp-content/themes/wovie/languages/es_ES.mo`. 2. Rename the copy with the code of your language, such as `wovie-es_MX.mo`. 3. Upload it to `wp-content/languages/themes/`. Do the same with Dbmovies: copy `wp-content/plugins/dbmovies/languages/dbmovies-es_ES.mo` as `dbmovies-es_MX.mo` into `wp-content/languages/plugins/`. You find the code of your language in the WordPress list of languages, such as `fr_FR` for French or `pt_BR` for Portuguese of Brazil. ## Translating Wovie to another language The translation lives in a `.mo` file named `wovie-` and the code of the language, such as `wovie-fr_FR.mo`. Keep it in `wp-content/languages/themes/`, not inside the folder of Wovie: updates replace the whole folder of the theme. **With the Loco Translate plugin:** 1. Install and activate **Loco Translate**. 2. Go to **Loco Translate › Themes › Wovie** and click **New language**. 3. Choose your language, and as the location, the **Custom** or **System** folder, never the folder of the theme. 4. Translate the texts and save. **With Poedit:** 1. Open `wp-content/themes/wovie/languages/wovie.pot` in Poedit and create a new translation for your language. 2. Translate the texts and save it as `wovie-fr_FR.po`, with the code of your language. Poedit also saves the `.mo`. 3. Upload `wovie-fr_FR.mo` to `wp-content/languages/themes/`. Translate Dbmovies the same way, so its messages are in your language too. ## Sharing your translation If you translated Wovie to a language it does not include, you can share it with us, so other sites can use it too: 1. Put your `.po` and `.mo` files in a `.zip` file. 2. Sign in to your Doothemes account and [open a ticket](https://doothemes.com/account/tickets/new). 3. Tell us the language and attach the `.zip`. We review the translations we receive and may include them in a future version of Wovie. ## Changing a text To change a text in a language that Wovie includes, such as one Spanish phrase: 1. Copy `es_ES.po` from `wp-content/themes/wovie/languages/` and open it in Poedit, or edit Wovie in Loco Translate. 2. Change the texts you want and save. 3. Upload the result as `wovie-es_ES.mo` to `wp-content/languages/themes/`. Your file replaces the Spanish translation of Wovie completely, so keep all its texts, not only the ones you changed. :::info After an update of Wovie, new texts may appear in English. Update your translation from the new `wovie.pot`: in Poedit, **Translation › Update from POT file**, or **Sync** in Loco Translate. ::: ## Object cache If your site uses a persistent object cache, such as Redis or Memcached, WordPress remembers which translation files exist. After you add a new translation file, clear that cache from your cache plugin or your hosting panel, or WordPress keeps using the previous one. ## Right-to-left languages Wovie does not include a right-to-left layout. With a language such as Arabic or Hebrew, the texts are translated but the layout stays left to right. ## Troubleshooting | Problem | What to do | |---|---| | The site stays in English | Check **Site Language** in **Settings › General**. If it is a variant of Spanish other than `es_ES`, see [Languages included](#languages-included) | | My translation file is not used | Check its name (`wovie-` plus the code of the language, ending in `.mo`) and its folder (`wp-content/languages/themes/`). With an object cache, clear it | | Some texts stay in English | They come from Dbmovies: translate it too. If they are new texts of Wovie, update your translation from the new `wovie.pot` | | My translation disappeared after an update | It was inside the folder of Wovie. Save it in `wp-content/languages/themes/` |
