# Requirements

> Wovie needs the Dbmovies plugin to work. This page lists what your server, Dbmovies and your visitors' browsers need, and which features of Wovie need a recent version of Dbmovies.

## Overview

Wovie is built for [Dbmovies](https://doothemes.com/docs/dbmovies): Dbmovies manages your catalog, links and members, and Wovie shows them. Before you install Wovie, make sure your site meets these requirements.

## Server and WordPress

- **WordPress 7.0** or higher.
- **PHP 8.2.35** or higher. We recommend **PHP 8.3** or newer: PHP 8.2 receives security fixes only until December 31, 2026.
- **Pretty permalinks**, any option except **Plain** in **Settings › Permalinks**. Signing in, the sections of the member account and the search page use addresses such as `/auth/login/`, `/account/ratings/` and `/search/batman/`.

For the database, the PHP extensions, HTTPS and the external services, see the [Dbmovies requirements](https://doothemes.com/docs/dbmovies/requirements). Wovie does not need any other plugin.

### If your PHP is older

Dbmovies still runs on PHP 8.1, but Wovie asks for PHP 8.2.35, because PHP 8.1 no longer receives security fixes. Since Wovie 1.2.32, WordPress checks your PHP version:

- **When you activate Wovie,** it stops with *Current PHP version does not meet minimum requirements for Wovie.*
- **When you upload or update Wovie,** the installation fails with *The PHP version on your server is …, however the uploaded theme requires 8.2.35.* Your current version of Wovie keeps working.

Ask your hosting provider to move your site to PHP 8.3 or newer. Most hosts let you change it from their control panel.

## Dbmovies

Wovie needs **Dbmovies active**, with its license activated. See [Installation](https://doothemes.com/docs/dbmovies/installation) and [License activation](https://doothemes.com/docs/dbmovies/license-activation) in the Dbmovies documentation.

### Without Dbmovies

If Dbmovies is not active:

- **In the WordPress admin,** users who can activate plugins see *Wovie requires the Dbmovies plugin*, with a link to **Plugins**.
- **On your site,** visitors see *This site is not available right now. Please come back later.* Administrators see what is missing instead, with a link to **Plugins**. Your pages answer with the code 503, so search engines come back later instead of removing them.

This page is shown since Wovie 1.2.32. In earlier versions, every page of your site shows *There has been a critical error on this website*.

### Keep Dbmovies up to date

Some features of Wovie need a recent version of Dbmovies. If yours is older, these features stay hidden until you update it:

| Auto-Embed links in the player of the movies | 1.3.30 |
| The membership and its payments in the member account | 1.3.29 |

With an older Dbmovies:

- **The Contact page** shows only its title and text. Administrators also see: *The contact form needs Dbmovies 1.3.37 or later. Update the plugin to show it here.*
- **The forms** work without the Turnstile check.
- **Collection pages** show the number of titles, without the rest of the summary, the sort order or the recurring cast.
- **The player of the movies** shows only the links you added in **Dbmovies › Links**.
- **The member account** shows no membership, no payments and no **Subscribe** button.

We recommend the latest version of Dbmovies. Updates arrive in **Dashboard › Updates**, like any other plugin. See [Updates](https://doothemes.com/docs/dbmovies/modules/updates).

## Your Wovie license

Your Wovie license brings the updates of the theme to your WordPress admin. You activate it in **Dbmovies › Updates**, next to the Dbmovies license. See [License activation](https://doothemes.com/docs/wovie/license-activation).

## Browsers

Wovie uses modern web features. It works on the current versions of **Chrome**, **Edge**, **Firefox** and **Safari**, on computers and phones.

## Troubleshooting
