Welcome

Thank you for choosing DooFiles. This documentation covers everything you need to manage the files of your WordPress site with it: installing the plugin, activating your license, working with files and folders, uploading, and the tools that keep your site safe while you do it.

What is DooFiles?

DooFiles is a premium WordPress plugin that lets you manage the files of your site from your WordPress admin, without FTP or the file manager of your hosting. It shows the folders of your site in a tree on the left and their files in a list on the right, with the same look as the rest of your admin.

You can open and edit code, preview images and videos, upload whole folders, move files by dragging them, create zip files, and recover what you delete. Every change is recorded, and the risky ones ask for your password first.

DooFiles works only inside the folder where WordPress is installed, and only the administrators of your site can open it.

How it works

  1. Install and activate. Upload the plugin, activate it, and activate your license in DooFiles › Settings. See Installation and License activation.
  2. Open the file manager. Go to DooFiles › File manager, or click the folder in the WordPress toolbar. See First steps.
  3. Work with your files. Browse, search, open, edit, upload, move, rename and compress, as you would on your computer.
  4. Undo mistakes. Deleted files go to the DooFiles trash, and every file you save keeps its previous versions.
  5. Protect the sensitive parts. Changes to code ask for your password, and you can add a second factor, close private folders to the web, or turn on read-only mode.
  6. Look back. The activity log shows who did what and when, and the Space view shows what takes up room on your server.

Key features

Files

  • A folder tree and a file list that you can sort by name, size or date, and a search by name.
  • A code editor with syntax highlighting, a check of PHP code before saving, and a side-by-side preview of Markdown, HTML and JSON files.
  • A full-screen viewer for images, videos and PDF files.
  • New files and folders, rename, move by dragging, download, and zip and unzip.
  • Previous versions of every file you save, so you can go back.

Uploads

  • Upload files or whole folders, with the button or by dragging them onto the list.
  • An uploads panel where you follow each file, pause, resume, cancel or retry it, and see what already finished.
  • Large files go up in parts, so a weak connection does not stop them, up to 2 GB by default.

Views

  • The Trash: what you delete waits there, so you can restore it or delete it for good.
  • The Activity log: every action, with the user, the date and the IP address, including the attempts that DooFiles blocked.
  • The Space view: the total size of your site, the largest folders and files, and how much each folder takes.

Security

See How DooFiles protects your site.

What you need

  • WordPress 6.4 or higher and PHP 8.0 or higher.
  • An administrator account on your site. On a multisite network, a network administrator.
  • A DooFiles license. Without an active license, you can browse the folders, but everything else stays locked.
  • Optional: the PHP zip extension, to compress and extract zip files.

See Requirements for the full list.

Who is DooFiles for?

  • Site owners who need to change a file, upload a folder or clean up space, without FTP access or the control panel of their hosting.
  • Agencies and freelancers who maintain sites for their clients and want every change recorded.
  • Developers who edit code on a live site and want a password check, a syntax check and a way back before anything breaks.

Your files stay on your server

DooFiles works on your own server. It never sends your files, your users or your content to Doothemes. To activate and check your license and look for updates, it sends only your license key, the address of your site and the version of the plugin.
