DooFiles
License activation
How to activate your DooFiles license, what it unlocks, what the License card shows, and how to renew, upgrade, move or deactivate a license.
What the license unlocks
DooFiles needs an active license to work. With it, you get:
- Every tool of the file manager: opening, editing, viewing, downloading, uploading, creating, compressing, searching, the Trash, the Activity log and the Space view.
- All the settings in DooFiles › Settings.
- Plugin updates, delivered to your WordPress admin for the time your plan includes.
- Support through tickets in your Doothemes account.
Without an active license, you can still browse the folders of your site, but everything else stays locked. The file manager shows a notice with a link to activate your license, and the cards in DooFiles › Settings show Needs a license, except the License card.
Your files are never changed or deleted because a license expires.
Where to find your license key
You receive your license key by email after your purchase. You can also see all your licenses at any time in Licenses in your Doothemes account.
How to activate your license
- In your WordPress admin, go to DooFiles › Settings.
- In the License card, paste your key in License key.
- Click Activate.
Below the field, DooFiles shows the site the license will be activated for: It will be activated for example.com. You can move it to another site later.
When the activation works, DooFiles shows License activated., the card shows Active, and the rest of the settings unlock right away, without reloading the page. If the file manager is open in another tab, reload it.

Local and development sites
Sites on your own computer or on a development address, such as localhost, .test or .local, do not use one of the activations of your license. DooFiles tells you so in the License card. Use them freely to test and build your sites.
What the License card shows
The badge next to the title shows the state of your license:
| Badge | What it means |
|---|---|
| Active | Your license is valid on this site |

| Expired | Your license period ended. See Renew your license |
| Disabled | Doothemes disabled your license. Contact support |
| Another domain | Your license is activated for a different address |
| Not valid | Doothemes says the license is not valid for this site |
With an active license, the card shows a summary: your plan, when it expires and the address of your site. Click Show details to see:

How DooFiles checks your license
DooFiles checks your license with Doothemes twice a day, and every time you open DooFiles › Settings. A renewal or a change of plan shows up on its own. To check it right away, click Check now.
To do this, DooFiles sends only your license key, the address of your site and the version of the plugin. It never sends your files, your users or your content.
If the Doothemes license service is under maintenance, or your server cannot reach it for a while, your license stays as it was at the last check. The card tells you when the service is under maintenance.
Renew your license
When your license is about to expire, in 30 days or less, the License card opens on its own and shows a notice with the date: This license expires on…. A Renew button takes you to the Doothemes store to renew it.
When it has expired, the button is still there, and DooFiles goes back to browsing only until you renew. After you renew, click Check now, or wait for the next check, and everything unlocks again.
A license that Doothemes disabled cannot be renewed. Its card shows Contact support instead.
Upgrade your plan
If a higher plan is available for your license, for example one with more sites, Upgrade your plan lists it with its price. The price already takes off what is left of your current plan. The upgrade opens in the Doothemes store.
Move your license to another site
Each license works on a number of sites at the same time. To use it on a different site:
- On the old site, go to DooFiles › Settings, open the details of the License card and click Deactivate.
- Confirm in the dialog. DooFiles goes back to browsing only on that site, and the activation becomes free.
- On the new site, activate the license as usual.
Deleting DooFiles from Plugins › Installed Plugins also releases its activation. If the old site is not available anymore, you can manage the sites of your license from Licenses in your Doothemes account.
Check that it works
After you activate your license, check that:
- The License card shows Active, and Last check shows a recent date.
- The file manager no longer shows the license notice, and you can open a file.
- Plugin updates appear in Dashboard › Updates when a new version is out.
