DooFiles

Uploads

How to upload files and whole folders with DooFiles, follow them in the uploads panel, pause and resume them, see what finished, handle files that already exist, and upload large files on slow connections.

Last updated: Oct 24, 2026

Overview

DooFiles uploads files and whole folders to your site from your browser, three at a time. An uploads panel shows each file while it goes up, lets you pause, resume or cancel it, and keeps the list of what finished.

Large files go up in parts that adapt to your connection. If a part fails, DooFiles tries again on its own, and a paused upload continues from where it stopped.

Upload files

There are three ways to upload:

  • The button. Click Upload files in the toolbar and choose one or more files. They go to the folder you have open.
  • Drag and drop. Drag files from your computer onto the list. A label shows where they will go: Drop to upload to “images”.
  • The right-click menu. Right-click an empty part of the list and choose Upload files.

To upload into a different folder without opening it, drop the files onto that folder: a folder in the list, a folder in the tree, or a part of the breadcrumbs.

Upload a whole folder

Drag a folder from your computer onto the list. DooFiles uploads everything inside it, with its subfolders, and keeps the same structure on your site.

The uploads panel

The panel opens on its own when you upload. It has three forms:

FormWhat you see
PanelA box at the bottom right with the list of files. Drag it by its top bar to move it anywhere
MinimizedA small bar with a summary, such as Uploading 3 of 12 · 45%, and a progress line
ExpandedA large view in the middle of the screen, with a full table of every file

Use the buttons at the top right of the panel to minimize, expand or close it. Press Escape, or click outside the expanded view, to go back to the panel. DooFiles remembers where you left the panel and its form, in this browser.

You can close the panel when nothing is uploading. To open it again, click the counter next to Upload files in the toolbar: it shows how many uploads are in the list.

While files are uploading, the title of the browser tab shows the progress, so you can follow it from another tab. If you try to leave the page, your browser asks you to confirm, so an upload is not cut by accident.

In progress

The In progress tab lists the files that are waiting, uploading, paused or failed:

StatusWhat it means
WaitingIn line. DooFiles uploads three files at a time
Uploading · 45%Going up now
PausedStopped by you. Resume it to continue from where it stopped
FailedIt could not finish. The reason appears under its name

Each file has its own buttons: pause, resume, try again or cancel. At the bottom, Pause all, Resume all and Cancel all act on every file at once.

The bottom of the panel also shows the total uploaded, the time left and the speed, and a progress circle:

CircleWhat it means
Green, filling upFiles are uploading
AmberEverything left is paused
RedSomething failed
Green with a checkEverything finished

Completed

The Completed tab lists the files that finished, newest first, with the time each one ended: Done or Skipped.

DooFiles keeps this list in your browser for 10 minutes after each upload ends, even if you close the panel or reload the page. You can change how long in DooFiles › Settings. See This browser. Clear list empties it right away.

The expanded view

The expanded view shows a full table, with the Name, Size, Average speed, Status, Time left and Type of each file.

  • In Completed, click Name, Size, Average speed or Type to sort the list. Click again to reverse the order.
  • When nothing is in progress, the In progress tab becomes a drop area: drop more files or folders on it, or click Select files, to keep uploading to the open folder without closing the panel.

A sound when uploads finish

When nothing is left in progress and at least one file went up, DooFiles plays a short chime. To turn it off, or to play it and hear it, go to Sound when uploads finish in DooFiles › Settings. See This browser.

Files that already exist

If a file with the same name already exists in the folder, DooFiles asks before replacing it: “logo.png” already exists in this folder. Do you want to replace it? A backup of the current file is kept.

  • Replace uploads your file in its place, and DooFiles keeps a copy of the old one. For text files, you can restore it from Versions in the editor. See Backups.
  • Skip leaves the existing file as it is. The upload shows as Skipped.

Check Do the same for the other files to apply your answer to every other file of the same upload that already exists.

Large files and slow connections

You do not need to change any server setting to upload large files:

  • Files over 1 MB go up in parts. The parts start small and grow or shrink to fit your connection, so each part finishes quickly, even on a slow connection or behind a proxy such as Cloudflare.
  • Failed parts are tried again. If your connection drops or the server does not answer, DooFiles waits a moment and tries again, a few times, before it marks the file as Failed.
  • Pause and resume. A paused file continues from its last part, not from the beginning.
  • Continue after closing the page. If an upload was cut, for example because you closed the page, upload the same file again to the same folder within 24 hours. DooFiles continues from what the server already received.

The largest file you can upload is set in DooFiles › Settings, 2 GB by default. A larger file fails with Larger than DooFiles allows (2 GB). See Limits.

Files that ask for your password

Uploading PHP files, or server and configuration files such as .htaccess or wp-config.php, asks for your WordPress password before anything is sent, the same as saving them in the editor. See Password confirmation.

If you cancel the password, that file is not uploaded and shows Cancelled: your password is needed for this file. The other files of the upload continue.

Troubleshooting

ProblemWhat to do
Uploads fail with The server answered with an error (502)Your server or a proxy, such as Cloudflare, cut a long request. DooFiles already retries in smaller parts. If it keeps failing, see Server configuration

Larger than DooFiles allows (2 GB).Raise Largest upload in Limits, or upload the file by FTP
A file stays at Uploading · 100% for a whileThe file arrived and the server is putting it in place. Large files take a few seconds more
Cancelled: your password is needed for this file.Upload the file again and confirm your password when DooFiles asks
The panel cannot be closedIt closes only when nothing is uploading. Wait, or cancel the uploads first
