DooFiles
Editor and uploads
The size limits of DooFiles: the largest file the editor opens, and the largest file you can upload, which can be larger than the upload limit of PHP.
Overview
This card sets two size limits: how large a file can be to open it in the editor, and how large a file can be to upload it.
Go to DooFiles › Settings and open Editor and uploads. Change the numbers and click Save changes. Saving asks for your password.
The settings
| Setting | What it does | Default | Range |
|---|---|---|---|
| Largest file the editor opens | Larger text files cannot be opened in the editor. You can still download them | 2 MB | 1 to 10 MB |
| Largest upload | Larger files cannot be uploaded with DooFiles | 2,048 MB (2 GB) | 1 MB to 102,400 MB (100 GB) |
Largest file the editor opens
Very large files make the editor slow, because your browser has to load and highlight all their text. 2 MB covers almost every code and configuration file. Large text files are usually logs or exports, which are easier to work with after downloading them.
When a file is larger, DooFiles tells you: This file is 3.4 MB. The editor opens files up to 2 MB; you can download it instead.
Largest upload
PHP on your server has its own limit for each request, set by upload_max_filesize and post_max_size. The card shows yours, for example 64 MB.
DooFiles does not depend on that limit: files over 1 MB go up in parts that fit within it, and DooFiles puts them together at the end. So Largest upload can be much larger than the limit of PHP, up to 100 GB.
When a file is larger than Largest upload, it fails with Larger than DooFiles allows (2 GB).
Free space on your server
Before a large upload starts, DooFiles checks that your server has enough free space for it. If not, the upload fails with There is not enough free space on the server for this file. Free some space, for example in the Space view, and try again.
Settings set by a developer
If a row shows Set by the … filter in the site's code., a developer fixed that value in the code of your site, and it cannot be changed here. See Filters and constants.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | What to do |
|---|---|
| This file is 3.4 MB. The editor opens files up to 2 MB; you can download it instead. | Raise Largest file the editor opens, up to 10 MB, or download the file and edit it on your computer |
| Larger than DooFiles allows (2 GB). | Raise Largest upload, or upload the file by FTP |
| There is not enough free space on the server for this file. | Free space on your server, or ask your hosting provider for more |
| Large uploads fail with a 502 or a timeout | Your server or a proxy cuts long requests. See Server configuration |
