DooFiles

Translations

The languages DooFiles is translated into, with the direction of each one and how much is translated, how regional variants such as Spanish from Mexico use the closest translation, and how to change the language.

Last updated: Oct 26, 2026

Overview

DooFiles is translated into 12 languages besides English. Every text of the plugin is translated: the file manager, the code editor, the media viewer, Preferences, Settings, the dialogs and the notices. Dates, numbers and the order of names in the file list follow your language too.

There is nothing to set up in DooFiles: it uses the language you chose in WordPress. The names of your files and folders, and what is inside your files, stay as they are.

The 12 translations need DooFiles 1.0.10 or newer. Earlier versions come in English and Spanish only.

Available languages

The table lists every language that shows DooFiles translated:

  • Direction is the direction of the text. LTR means left to right.
  • Translated is the share of the 897 texts of DooFiles 1.0.11 that are translated.
  • Translation says which translation the language uses. A regional variant without a translation of its own uses the closest one of the same language: for example, a site in Spanish (Mexico) shows the Spanish translation.

Regional variants use the closest translation with DooFiles 1.0.10 or newer. A few notes on how each translation reads:

  • Spanish is written in neutral Spanish, so it reads naturally in Spain and in Latin America, and it addresses you informally (tú).
  • Portuguese has two translations, because Brazil and Portugal write it differently. The one for Brazil uses você; the one for Portugal is formal, like WordPress in Portuguese (Portugal).
  • German addresses you informally (du), like WordPress in German. Sites in German (Formal) see the same translation.
  • French addresses you formally (vous), like WordPress in French.
  • Chinese comes in simplified characters only. Chinese (Taiwan) and Chinese (Hong Kong) use traditional characters, so DooFiles shows in English on those sites.

Right-to-left languages

All the translations of DooFiles are written left to right. There is no translation yet for a language written right to left, such as Arabic, Hebrew or Persian: on those sites, the texts of DooFiles show in English.

How DooFiles picks the language

DooFiles shows in the language WordPress uses for you:

  1. The language of your profile, in Users › Profile › Language. Each administrator can see DooFiles in a different language.
  2. With Site Default in your profile, the language of the site, in Settings › General › Site Language.
  3. If that language has no translation of its own, the closest translation of the same language, as the table shows.
  4. Any other language shows DooFiles in English.

Change the language

  1. Go to Users › Profile.
  2. In Language, choose your language.
  3. Click Update Profile.
  4. Open DooFiles again.

Check that it works: under DooFiles in the menu of WordPress, the first item shows in your language, for example Gestor de archivos in Spanish.

The Language list only shows the languages installed in WordPress. To add another one, an administrator chooses it in Settings › General › Site Language and clicks Save Changes: WordPress downloads it. You can switch the site back to its language afterward, and the new language stays installed.

Request a new language

Want DooFiles in a language that is not on the list? Ask us, from DooFiles or with a ticket. You can also ask for a translation of its own for a regional variant that uses the closest one, such as Portuguese (Angola).

From DooFiles:

  1. Go to DooFiles › Settings and open Feedback. You also find it at the bottom of Preferences.
  2. In What is it about?, choose An idea or a request.
  3. Write the language you need, for example Please add DooFiles in Dutch.
  4. Click Send.

DooFiles opens a ticket in your account with your message, and shows its number. The answer reaches you by email. Feedback needs DooFiles 1.0.10 or newer and your license activated on the site.

With a ticket: open a support ticket from your Doothemes account, and tell us the language you need.

Improve a translation

Did a text read wrong in your language? Tell us the same way: from Feedback, choose Something does not work, and write the text and where you saw it, or open a support ticket.

The translation files come with DooFiles, in the languages folder of the plugin, with a .po file for each language. Translators can open them with an editor such as Poedit. Each update of DooFiles replaces that folder, so send us your changes instead of editing the files on your site.

For developers

Use a translation for another language

The filter doofiles_fallback_locales decides which translation a language without its own uses. It receives an array: each key is a language code of WordPress, complete (gl_ES) or only the language (ca), and each value is the code of a language with its own translation in DooFiles, from the table.

DooFiles looks for the complete code first, then for the language alone. A language with a translation of its own never uses this filter, and a value without a translation is ignored, so that language shows in English.

php
// Galician and Catalan sites show DooFiles in Spanish.
add_filter('doofiles_fallback_locales', function (array $map): array {
    $map['gl_ES'] = 'es_ES';
    $map['ca'] = 'es_ES';
    return $map;
});

Add it in a small must-use plugin or in the functions.php file of your child theme: see Where to add the code. This filter needs DooFiles 1.0.10 or newer.
