Archives and filters

The archives list all your movies, TV shows and collections, and the pages of each genre, country, year and tag. This page explains the genre tabs, the filters, the seven sort orders, the pagination and the links with filters.

Last updated: Oct 22, 2026

Overview

Wovie has an archive for each type of title, and a page for each genre, country, release year and tag:

PageAddressWhat it lists
Movies/movies/Every movie
TV Shows/tvshows/Every TV show
Collections/collections/Every collection
A genreSuch as /genre/action/The movies and TV shows of that genre
A countrySuch as /country/japan/The movies and TV shows of that country
A release yearSuch as /release/2024/The movies and TV shows released that year
A tagSuch as /tag/superhero/The movies and TV shows with that tag

The words of each address, such as movies or genre, are set in Dbmovies. See Movies in the Dbmovies documentation. Episodes have no archive: they are listed on the page of their TV show.

The movies and TV shows archives

At the top, a filter bar with three controls:

  • The genre tabs: All, and each genre that has titles. On computers, arrows scroll them.
  • Filter by: opens a window with the Country and Year of release, the ones that have titles, the newest years first. A number on the button tells how many are on. Reset all clears them, and Done closes the window.
  • The sort menu, with seven orders.

Sort orders

OrderWhat it shows first
Most recentThe latest published. It is the default order. If Dbmovies publishes your titles with their release date, the newest releases. See Initial settings
Recently updatedThe titles you edited or the Meta Updater refreshed most recently
Top ratedThe best rated on your site. Titles without a rating are left out. See User ratings
Top rated on IMDbThe best rated on IMDb. Titles without an IMDb rating go last
Top rated on TMDbThe best rated on TMDb. Titles without a TMDb rating go last
Most viewed todayTitles viewed in the last 24 hours, most viewed first. If no title was viewed in that time, the newest titles appear first. See View counter
All-time popularThe most viewed since they were published

Pages

Each page shows 20 titles. Visitors move with the page numbers and Prev and Next, with the ← and → keys of their keyboard, or by swiping on a phone.

When no title matches, the archive shows No matches found, with Clear filters to remove every filter and go back to Most recent.

Your filters are remembered

Wovie remembers the genre, filters and order of each archive in the visitor's browser. When they come back to the Movies archive, it opens as they left it. Movies and TV shows keep their own filters.

The address of the archive changes with the filters, such as /movies?orderby=imdb&genre=action&release=2024, so visitors can:

  • go back with the back button of their browser to the filters they had before;
  • share a link that opens with the same filters;
  • reload the page without losing them.

Genre, country, year and tag pages

Each genre, country, release year and tag has its page. It works like the archives, with these differences:

  • The tabs are All, Movies and TV Shows, instead of the genres.
  • Filter by offers the other filters, genre included. On a genre page, for example, it offers the country and the year.
  • The filters are shared by the pages of the same kind. A year chosen on the Action page also applies on the Comedy page.

Visitors reach the genre pages from the home page and from each title, and the country pages from each title. Year and tag pages have no link of their own: add the ones you want to your menus.

The collections archive

Every collection, as a card with the posters of its titles and its number of titles. It has no filters, and it uses the same pagination. See Collection page.

Troubleshooting

ProblemWhat to do
A genre, country or year is missing from the filtersOnly the ones that have published titles appear. Publish or import titles of that genre, country or year
The archive opens with filters the visitor did not chooseThey are the last filters used in that browser. Clear filters, or Reset all in Filter by, clears them
No matches foundNo title matches the combination of filters. Remove a filter
Most viewed today shows the newest titlesNo title was viewed in the last 24 hours. With full-page caching, visits served from the cache are not counted. See Page caching. Before Dbmovies 1.3.39, the list showed No matches found instead
A title is missing from Top ratedIt has no rating yet: you added it by hand, or it had no IMDb or TMDb rating when you imported it. It joins the list with its first vote
The archive shows a 404 pageGo to Settings › Permalinks and click Save Changes
