Wovie

Search

How visitors search your catalog: the search window with results as they type and voice search, and the search page with its filters and sort orders. This page also explains what the search finds and the Dbmovies settings it uses.

Overview

Wovie has two ways to search your catalog:

  • The search window, which opens from the header. Results appear while the visitor types, and they can also search by voice.
  • The search page, with all the results, filters and sort orders.

Both search the movies and TV shows published on your site.

The search window

Visitors open it with the search button of the header, or with Ctrl + K on a computer.

They type at least three characters, and the results appear when they stop typing. Each result shows the poster, the title, the start of the synopsis, the year, the age rating and whether it is a movie or a TV show. A click opens the title.

Enter or View All results opens the search page with the same words.

The window closes with Esc, or with a double click or double tap outside the search box.

The microphone starts listening, and what the visitor says is written in the search box. On computers, the header also has a microphone that opens the window and starts listening right away. On phones, the microphone is inside the window.

  • The browser asks for permission to use the microphone the first time.
  • It listens in the language of the visitor's browser.
  • Esc stops it.

The microphone only appears in browsers that support voice recognition, such as Chrome, Edge and Safari.

Settings

The results of the window are set in Dbmovies, in Dbmovies › Settings › Core Modules › Live search:

What the search finds

The search looks for the words typed in the title and the synopsis of your published movies and TV shows. A title appears when it has all the words.

It does not search genres, people, episodes or collections. To browse a genre, visitors use its page. See Archives and filters.

The search page

Its address is /search/ followed by the words, such as /search/batman/. At the top, the search box to search again and the number of results.

FilterOptions
TypeAll, Movies or TV Shows
YearThe release year, from the current year back 40 years. Clicking the year again removes it
Sort byThe order of the results. See the table below

The active filters appear above the results, each one with an × to remove it, and Clear all removes them all. Each page shows 18 results, with the same pagination as the archives: page numbers, Prev and Next, the ← and → keys, and swiping on phones.

On phones, the filters are behind the Filters button, which shows how many are on. They open from the bottom of the screen, and a tap outside closes them.

Sort orders

OrderWhat it shows first

Oldest firstThe first added to your site
Title A-Z and Title Z-AAlphabetical order
IMDb TopThe best rated on IMDb. Titles without an IMDb rating go last

The address changes with the filters, such as /search/batman/?type=movies&sort=imdb&year=2024. Visitors can go back to their previous filters with the back button of their browser, and share or reload a search without losing them.

Ads

The search page has an ad position under its title: Search — Native pair under title, with up to two ads side by side. Ads are managed in Dbmovies. See Ad Manager.
