Wovie
Troubleshooting
Solutions to the most common problems with Wovie: the site does not load, content does not appear, forms fail, updates or translations do not arrive, and how to ask us for help.
Overview
Most problems with Wovie come from a few causes: Dbmovies inactive or out of date, the permalink settings, a cache, or a plugin that blocks or delays parts of the site. This page lists them by symptom and links to the page with the details.
First checks
- Update Wovie and Dbmovies to their latest versions. Many features of Wovie need a recent Dbmovies. See Requirements.
- Clear your caches: your page cache plugin, your CDN and, if you have one, your object cache.
- Look at the browser console. Press F12, open Console and reload the page: errors in red point to the cause.
- Check the status of Dbmovies in Tools › Site Health, tab Dbmovies: versions, licenses, external services and scheduled tasks in one place.
The site does not load
| Problem | What to do |
|---|---|
| Every page shows This site is not available right now. | Dbmovies is not active. Activate it in Plugins. See When Dbmovies is not active |
| Every page shows There has been a critical error on this website | With Wovie 1.2.31 or earlier, Dbmovies is not active. Activate it, and update Wovie |
| Sign in, the account, the search or an archive shows a 404 page | Go to Settings › Permalinks, choose any option except Plain, and click Save Changes |
| A page shows nothing between the header and the footer | It uses the Landing Page template. See Other pages |
Content does not appear
| Problem | What to do |
|---|---|
| Archives, genres, search results, episodes, related titles or the player do not load | Wovie loads them from the WordPress REST API. Open your-site.com/wp-json/ in your browser: it must show data, not an error. If it does not, a security plugin or a firewall rule is blocking it. Also check that permalinks are not Plain |
| Lists stay empty until you scroll or tap, or the carousels look broken | A plugin that delays, defers or combines JavaScript is holding the scripts of Wovie. Exclude wovie.min.js and swiper-bundle.min.js from that option, such as Delay JavaScript execution in WP Rocket |
| A new title does not appear on the home page | The rows of the home page refresh every 5 minutes. See Home and Browser |
| Posters or photos are missing | Check where Dbmovies loads the images from. See Import images |
| A title page has no links to watch | See Player and links |
Forms and members
| Problem | What to do |
|---|---|
| Invalid security token. on sign in or contact | A page cache keeps an old copy of the form. Update Dbmovies to 1.3.39 or later, and clear your cache. See Sign in |
| The verification code or other emails do not arrive | Review how your site sends email in Dbmovies › Settings › Email. See Initial settings |
| A comment does not appear | It waits for your approval in Comments. See Comments |
| A payment stays processing | PayPal has not confirmed it. See Account |
Updates and translations
| Problem | What to do |
|---|---|
| No update of Wovie appears | Activate your license in Dbmovies › Updates and click Check now. See License activation |
| The update fails with a PHP message | Wovie needs PHP 8.2.35 or later. See Requirements |
| A page looks broken after an update | Clear your caches. If you use a child theme, one of your copied templates may be out of date. See Child theme |
| The site shows in English | Check the language of your site and your translation files. See Translations |
| My translation disappeared after an update | It was inside the folder of Wovie. See Translations |
Ads
| Problem | What to do |
|---|---|
| I do not see the ads on my own site | Turn off your ad blocker on your site |
| An ad position shows nothing, or the Drift pop does not appear | See Ad positions |
