Wovie

First steps

What to do after you install Wovie, in order: your home page, your first titles, the featured carousel, the genres, your logo, your menus and your links.

Last updated: Oct 22, 2026

Overview

You installed Wovie and activated its license. These steps take your site from an empty theme to a home page full of movies and TV shows. Follow them in order: each one fills a part of your site.

Before you start, check that Dbmovies is active with its license and your TMDb API key. See Add your TMDb API key in the Dbmovies documentation.

Step 1: Your home page

Go to Settings › Reading and leave Your homepage displays on Your latest posts, the WordPress default. Your home page then shows the Wovie content browser: the featured carousel, your genres and the rows of titles.

If you prefer a static page as your home page, choose the Browser page that Dbmovies created: it shows the same content browser. Any other page shows its own content instead.

Step 2: Import your first titles

Import some movies and TV shows with the Dbmovies importers. Your home page fills on its own:

  • Movies and TV Shows show your latest titles.
  • Latest episodes shows the newest episodes, once your TV shows have them.
  • Most viewed today shows the titles your visitors open the most.

A row with nothing to show does not appear. New titles can take up to 5 minutes to appear on your home page.

Step 3: Feature your best titles

The carousel at the top of your home page shows your featured titles, up to 10, the most recently featured first. Until you feature a title, the carousel does not appear.

To feature a title, see Featured content in the Dbmovies documentation.

Step 4: Add your genres to the home page

The row of genres under the carousel shows the genres you choose, each with an icon:

  1. Go to Appearance › Customize › Wovie / General › Genres list.
  2. Click Add genre.
  3. Choose the Genre.
  4. Optional: write a Custom title, such as Action. Without it, the name of the genre is used.
  5. Write the FA class icon, the classes of a Font Awesome icon, such as fa-solid fa-film.
  6. Repeat for each genre, drag them into the order you want, and click Publish.

Until you add genres, the row does not appear. See Theme options for every option.

  1. Go to Appearance › Customize › Wovie / Header › Logo.
  2. Upload your Logo and adjust the Header logo height.
  3. For the footer, go to Wovie / Footer › Brand: upload the Logo or Icon and write the Logo subtitle.
  4. Click Publish.

Wovie uses a dark design, so choose a logo that reads well on a dark background. See Theme options.

Step 6: Your menus

Go to Appearance › Menus, create your menus and assign them to the locations of Wovie:

  • Menu header: the main menu, at the top of every page. Until you assign one, the header shows links to your movies, TV shows and collections.
  • Footer columns: the columns of links in the footer.
  • Footer social links: your social networks, with their icons added on their own.
  • Footer bottom links: the links next to the copyright, such as your terms and privacy policy.

See Menus.

Your visitors watch and download through the links of each title. Add them by hand, import them from a spreadsheet, or generate them for every title with Auto-Embed. See Link sources and Auto-Embed in the Dbmovies documentation.

Optional steps

Turn on what your site needs. Each one is set up in Dbmovies, and Wovie shows it on its own:

Check that it works

  1. Open your site in a private window, as a visitor would.
  2. The home page shows the featured carousel, your genres and the rows of titles.
  3. Open a movie and click Watch: its links appear.
  4. Click Sign up and create a test account. You receive a 6-digit code by email to confirm it.

If the sign-in page or the account shows a 404 page, go to Settings › Permalinks and click Save Changes.
